Strongly considering a move to this area. I've only been there a few times, never stayed there more than a day.

I love to ski and the notion that solid ski resorts are a half hour away is a big plus. Cost of living also reasonable. Within driving distance of many good places(Las Vegas, Boise, Arizona, Denver, Jackson).

Edit: Other cities I am considering are Houston, Jacksonville FL, Fort Myers, Panama City

Taking a different job within my company and with that comes being able to choose where I get to go for said position.

Possibilities are Salt Lake, Houston, Panama City, Jacksonville, Fort Myers

Just moved here in June from NOLA for work. No regrets. It's a great town and the access to the outdoors is second to none. Very happy with my decision, especially with ski season in full force. Let me know of any other questions

No but I've toured the Mormon headquarters. Interesting stuff, but also kinda creeped me out at the same time.

West of I-15 is sketch. East of that is fine. Look in the avenues and sugarhouse. I live in the avenues and really enjoy it.

Also the foothill drive area is a really nice neighborhood that I didn't really know about when I was looking.

Office I would hypothetically work at is in the Sugar House area, seems a bit more expensive than rest of the city

Houston - armpit of Texas, may as well just join one of the cartels
Jax - highly overrated, very spread out, high redneck quotient
Fort Myers - been on a steady decline for a while now
Panama City - trashy young people

SLC - winner

Just spent a week there with the family touring the university and Salt Lake. What a great town.

If you love being outside, I don't think there's a greater place to be. It is a truly amazing place for an outdoor enthusiast. Skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, hunting, rock climbing, etc, etc, etc....

The city is laid out in a grid with very wide streets. It is impossible to get lost and I don't remember there being any kind of traffic problems.

We were very impressed with the food. It isn't New Orleans or even Birmingham, but they had some very nice restaurants and breweries.

The people were incredibly friendly. It reminded me of being in the south. People went out of their way to be nice and engage in conversation. There weren't many brown people besides a small hispanic population. That was strange to me being from the south.

The cost of living calculator says its comparable to Birmingham, Al or any other small southern city. I'd love to retire there.

Moved here a little over two years ago. From Louisiana, most recently was living in NOLA.

It really is a fantastic place, despite what some people say (LDS, drinking laws, etc.) Outdoor options aplenty. Great stuff all over the state, the city is actually, clean, efficient, and has a ton of options of stuff to do.

I find general quality of life higher than any other place I've lived for an extended period of time, fwiw.

It's pretty white and doesn't have too many Jews, so it should be right up your alley.

Although I'm sure you'll find a way to have a few uncomfortable altercations within three months of living there.

I would avoid West Valley City and wouldn't go below Cottonwood Heights or Sandy (not sketchy, but if you're young and single it isn't worth it).

If you're working in Sugar House, Holladay, Murray, Midvale all provide easy access and good value.
If you live close to I-215 or 80, you can get anywhere in the city, even with traffic, in under 30 mins.

If you consider Houston the armpit of Texas, I shudder at what you would label the rest of Texas
