Has Anyone Ever Had a Good Experience with a Mechanic?

Seems like every time I get my oil changed or tires rotated, new problems are discovered that need to be repaired. Car is usually running perfectly fine, but there's always a new filter that needs to be replaced, a gauge that needs updating, a new engine fluid to try, etc. List prices for labor, oil, parts, etc. are never accurate. Wait times are always grossly underestimated. Etc.

It's just an overall bad experience. Almost every time.

Am I the only one, or is this a common theme?

ETA: And, yes, I've tried multiple different mechanics. Similar experience at every one.

Yeah, pretty much every time. I go to a guy in my little hometown that our family has known for years. Reasonably priced and does honest work.

as a former mechanic i can understand your frustrations. But you have to realize the pressure is not coming from the mechanic. It's coming from the service writer aka- The Salesman.

Yes, my dude is trustworthy and never tries to "upsell" me. Last time I went, I grabbed a bunch of his business cards. Hand them out left and right.

Good friend of mine is the big dog service writer there. He's good people and don't play the usual bullshite upsell tactics other stealerships employ.

Yes. My mechanic actually down sells me. I bring it in for preventative maintenance he tells me if it's not broke, don't fix it. Gotta love that.

Yes. Always a good experience with the guy I go to. Shoots me straight and doesn't try to sell me on extra things I don't need.

I had to take my last car to the shop, and I used K&M Automotive on Siegen, and they were super nice and really helpful. Also could've charged me out the arse for something they didn't do, but were honest and fixed me up for cheap. They will always get my business until they prove to me that they aren't trustworthy.

Not sure if you are in BR, but for oil change/tires rotated I go to quick lane on airline, they've never told me a bunch of BS about other things i should have fixed. $49.99

For any other problems I go to Agco on coursey. He's usually super busy and its sometimes hard to get your car in on short notice, but he's honest, and will explain exactly whats wrong with your car, and why it happened.

I love my mechanic and id make a significant effort to keep going to him if he doesn't live in our area. He's just honest and cheap. He has told my family multiple times that we didn't need to be charged for work.

It's pretty much impossible to find an honest mechanic unless you know them personally and trust that they won't screw you over. I laugh at the quotes I get when they do their "40 point inspection" and discover that I should give them $1,500 more to service things that either don't need to be serviced or stuff that can easily be done by myself in a matter of minutes.
