"Anytime a white judge has a black defendant in the courtroom, you're going to see them cry racism every time," said McSpadden. "And I'm sick and tired of it."
HOUSTON - Outside the criminal courthouse, Houston City Council member Michael Kubosh called out 209th Harris County District Court Judge Michael McSpadden.
"This is egregiously wrong," said Kubosh. "It's got to stop. It's mistreatment of people."
The man at the center of the controversy is Antwain Townes. He's charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Kubosh helped pay for for his $80,000 bond.
Judge McSpadden says since Townes managed to pay the bond, he can afford his own attorney. The judge ordered him to court for 10 straight days last month until he could hire someone to represent him.
"It's very depressing, sometimes I just want to give up," said Townes. Townes says there's no way he can afford hiring his own attorney right now.
"How can he go get a job if he's having to appear so much, day after day in court," said Kubosh.
Tonight Judge McSpadden is firing back against his critics.
"Anytime a white judge has a black defendant in the courtroom, you're going to see them cry racism every time," said McSpadden. "And I'm sick and tired of it."
He says the facts of the case guide all his decisions. Judge McSpadden says he gave Townes nearly four months to hire an attorney after Townes dismissed him in March. When he didn't comply with the judge's order, he resorted to resetting Towne's case daily.
"This is not about anyone being persecuted," said McSpadden. "This isn't about any racist moves. And if they think this is going to intervene in my administration of justice by getting a few people out in front of the courthouse, then they don't know me very well."
Townes is due back in court Friday morning.

Damn I go back on the 13th!! I always miss good shite by a week! I mean really, why would anyone think Black Friday is the day IMMEDIATELY after Turkey day? frickers.
ETA: The judge is well within the law, after arrest/bond secured, most criminal defendants are given a court date about 5 days after release..upon that initial court date..the judge asks about attorney status, if none are retained the defendant is normally given 2 weeks and come back to court with representation. Judge gave him 4 months..

So this judge is actually saying that every single time there was a black defendant in a white judge that the black defendant cries racism? Yes that is exactly what he said. And I did not see anything in the article or video about the defendant claiming racism. Looks like we have some backwoods tobacco spittin' racist judge here folks.
Yes, the judge ordered him there for 10 straight days and on 10 straight days he reset the hearing for the next day.

This quote from the article left out very important spoken words in the video. Watch the video and see if you can figure it out.

Everyone knows you're a race baiter.
Now, does literally every single person in existence know that? No, some people in Ethiopia don't have access to tigerdroppings. That is a common way speaking.
See how that works?

You are an idiot.

Yeah you can just tell that this judge does not have any preconceived notions about black defendants. LMAO

This isn't racism, but this judge's actions are unprofessional and ridiculous. A fee for this kind of case is going to run you about $10k (minimum) where I'm from, given the time you can get if convicted. I don't know many lawyers who wouldn't require about half up front.
It took another individual assisting the defendant for him to make bond, which would have been about $6.5k if it was a surety bond where the bail bondsman wanted 8%. If the defendant can't bond himself out with his own income, how can he hire a private attorney whose fee is more than the bail bondsman? Just refer the guy to the public defender and set a new appearance date.

Yep. I watched it. And he sure did say "every time"
Like I said, I am sure this judge has no preconceived notions about black defendants whatsoever. Lol

You're a moron, too.
Facts of the case..
80k bond on aggravated robbery..probably means this wasn't his first brush up.
4 months to get an attorney...way more than he should be allotted. If the congressman bitch was really into helping, he would help by hiring an attorney for the defendant.
Defendant probably could have served his time by now and been on his merry way.

And here you are in this thread tossing around your "preconceived notions" (backwoods, "tobacco spittn'") without a hint of self-awareness. It's 2017 and the vast majority of us would welcome you keeping your hateful stereotyping to yourself.

Truth. Since this made the news, as it should, I am sure someone will step up pro bono now.
