Can you explain the calculation to me, serious question not a flame.
242 years dates back to October 1775. The Declaration of Independence didn't take place until July 4, 1776 (July 2nd was the date of the vote). So how does the United States Navy claim to be a year older than the United States itself?
I am assuming the Navy is tracing back to a militia navy or continental navy that was in existence prior to the actual formation of our nation. The National Guard does the same thing, but goes even further claiming to be like 380 years old, tracing way back to the 1600s. Is that how the calculations are done?
