Yeah I would have cried if I had gotten a gift like that. Sounds awesome.

Sadly my grams kicked the bucket 27 years ago. I was this freaking close.

Our coolest gifts were those that bought us REI giftcards and backpacking gear off our REI registry.

This is one of the issues I have with it. Wedding presents are traditionally supposed to help the couple with things to help them kickstart their new life together. Not buy them backpacking gear they will use sparingly.

Not they way they are today.

See Nurse asking for backpacking gear.

Absolutely. And most couples have all of those things.

We were both in our 30s and had lived on our own for years before we got married. So it's not like we really needed a bunch of stuff for our home. Why not ask for for stuff we will enjoy together?

I'd rather give a couple something they can enjoy together than a salad spinner. I know others who feel the same way.

Also...we didn't have large registries to begin with. But we did have a more "traditional" one for people that wanted to buy stuff like that as a wedding gift. And then another smaller "nontraditional" one for our friends and family that didn't want to buy traditional gifts.

Then why ask for anything if you had all you needed?

It's your wedding and all but to me it looks more like taking advantage of people's generosity then actually using a registry the way it was meant to be used.

I have been to weddings were couples did the same thing. One was asking for fricking golf clubs and shite. I just found it extremely tacky.

Well considering we had a destination wedding at the beach....we actually told our guests that their presence alone was enough of a gift since they were having to pay money in travel to attend. But some people still want to give gifts(I know I would for another couple that had a destination wedding) so we did small registries for that. Nothing on our registries cost more than $100 either(most stuff $50 or under actually). We weren't asking for crazy expensive stuff.

I'd say a third of our guests didn't give us anything which we were ok with considering we knew they were on tight budgets to begin with. We were just happy they were there.

I agree with that. Nobody should be registering for freaking golf clubs and camping equipment. If people who know them well enough to know how much they love that stuff decide independently to buy them that gift then it's a great GIFT. Registering for that stuff seems overly presumptuous and tacky.

So you think a salad spinner will better benefit the couple's marriage over equipment they will use together in the future?
