I tend to side with that of the homeowner and believe them when they say firearms were brandished and profanities hurled in threatening manner until proven otherwise
You STILL don't realize that the homeowner, based on what we know, never once said the actual person he shot did any of these things?

You keep mentioning context. The shooter has stated he didn't mean to shoot anyone, so there's nothing to correlate the actual person he shot with any of the accusations made, and yet you're doing it AND presenting it as fact.

I base that on, in this country, innocence until proven guilty.

If the shooter is found guilty, his life in prison will still have more value than that of the thug he shot. This will undoubtedly trigger the hell out of you. Mainly because it's true and you know it.

Neighbors and HOA say they don't have a neighborhood watch

These "neighborhood" watch guys seem to be self appointed assholes with an agenda.

Now you're back peddling and claiming you weren't implying the deceased should have been given an opportunity to state his case based of some twisted view on morality you hold? Typical.
Believing that both parties deserve to benefit from the same standard of NOT jumping to conclusions is some twisted view of morality?

Copley had a brief hearing Monday where he was denied bail. As of Monday afternoon, an attorney had not been assigned to the case. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 29.

Crazy behind the "garage door murderer" will be back in court on Monday.

Sad thing is that I don't think the guy that was shot knew there was a madman hiding in the garage about to take his life.

quote:

UNC law professor Joseph Kennedy said even if Thomas did have a gun, Copley would not have been justified in shooting him unless there was a credible threat to his or someone else’s life.

quote:

Kennedy said the concept of a warning shot is impractical. If someone shoots at a person for whatever reason, that person is allowed by law to shoot back in self-defense, Kennedy said.

“A warning shot is in the eyes of the beholder,” he said. “If I fire a gun at you and I miss, how do you know that that’s a warning shot?”

quote:

Dennis Kenny, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, said based on the 911 calls and the details about the case that have been released so far, he can’t see how Copley could successfully argue self-defense.

“I think any court would have a difficult time with that argument,” Kenny said, “because then anyone could shoot someone they were fearful of.”

Seems to be a lot of hypothetical musings in this thread. Who the hell knows what actually happened. One thing for, there is a whole lot of stupid in that neighborhood.

As wrong (legally) as the shooting may be, I don't personally have the slightest problem with it.

Didn't VP Biden advise homeowners to fire warning shots?
