Y'all may remember my thread about the longest horned steer, Lazy J's Bluegrass, that recently sold at auction for $48,000. He measured 120+" tip to tip.

Linked is a video of them measuring the longest horned bull Cowboy Tuff Chex.

LINK

For those interested the difference between a steer and a bull is that a steer has been castrated. For some reason their horns grow bigger once castrated.

Spoiler alert, CTC broke 100" tip to tip. I don't think the next closest has cracked the 90's.

Looks equal to the one in your Sig pic.

I see those and all I can think of is a Texas steakhouse.

I appreciate the compliment, but TCC Candy Gumdrops was only 74.5" tip to tip this past April. He gets wormed, vaccinated and remeasured tomorrow morning when we work our herd.

Eta: I'm thinking he'll crack 75" ttt. He's 7 years old and has eclipsed his prime horn growth stage.

Theoretically, yes. But pedigree and progeny play a big part in value as well.

Preservation of the breed. They nearly went extinct after the introduction of angus, herford, charolais and brahman to the Western hemisphere.

Also, they still have use in the rodeo for team roping and bull dogging. Hard to that without a set of horns...

Corriente ftw. ( Close relative of the LH)

Correct, corriente is much closer to the original breed. It stayed smaller framed as natural selection dictated. Still, many rodeos etc, use yearling longhorn stock quite often as they are more available than corrientes.

The name longhorns has actually been a curse more than a blessing as people have taken it upon themselves to select for longer and longer horns. It looks cool, but other traits have been disregarded int he name of greater horn span.

We use to get Corrientes out of mexico. They stayed fresher longer in the roping pen. Most roping cattle are LH x Corriente.
