I ordered something online...paid...I get shipping info and it says one of the things isn't shipping until 6/17/2014

How long ago did you order it? If it was recently, it might have gone on backorder and the date you see is just a "placeholder."
That's how things work in my job, anyways (I'm a Supply guy in the Air Force).

Give it a week or two, tops, then check again.
If the ship date hasn't changed, then give 'em what for.
Chances are it'll get shipped WAY before that, but the computers have to assign an ESD to every transaction, so they'll assign a 6 month lead date to cover their asses.
