Visiting friends in Miami then heading to Key West for couple of days with wife.

Advice on things to do and places to see at both places?

Appreciate it. Thx

My advice would be minimize your time in Miami and maximize your time in Key West.

Key lime pie at Blue Heaven on Key West. It's the dessert of paradise.

Hog's Breath Saloon in Key West any good? Looks ok, but filled with tourists. Any local hangouts in Key West?

Go over to Hog Fish Bar and Grill on Stock Island. Get the hog fish sandwich.

If you are driving through Marathon around lunch or dinner time, stop at Keys Fisheries. If you like a Reuben, they have a lobster Reuben.

Go eat at the El Siboney (Cuban) and Seven Fish (chef's an LSU guy). Both will be a mix of locals and tourists, but they're good and not on the beaten path tourist traps. Not too many pure local joints on Key West.

I was in Key West for one day on a cruise stop and I loved it, would love to go back. It is small though so I wouldn't spend too many days there unless you enjoy going out to drink a lot.

Won't be too many people in Key West this time of year, especially with the hurricane, so you should be good anywhere you go. If you like beer, The Porch is one of my favorite places on the island. When you get done there, hang a left on whitehead st. and cruise down to the Green Parrot. They've always got a good band on weekends.

Yes, Hogfish is the real deal. Actually on Stock Island, which is just north of KW.

On your way down, look for a joint at mile marker 21 (they use mile markers for locating). Mangrove Mamas. One of our favorites down there. Good Cuban joints in KW. Schooner Wharf, funky bar right on the KW charter docks is good filled w/locals. Stay away from Duval St., unless you want to see Bourbon st type shite.

Don't do this:
quote:

I have eaten there twice, the second time being their second chance.
They will not get a third.

You and your wife might enjoy the Garden of Eden. It's a roof top bar above the Bull & Whistle, corner of Caroline and Duval. The view is sometimes very nice.

Mine would be the exact opposite. And all the time in Key West should be spent in Old Town
