Good morning everyone! Happy Father's Day to all the dads here!
Gonna take my dad to lunch today. First time in like 11 years that I've seen my dad in person on Father's Day. Got him a toolbox and some tools to help replace some of those he lost in the flood.

Dad and I had a little moment last night. LSU baseball was always a big part of our bond.
Miss you, Pop Rouge.

Good morning all.
Nurse, how does your dad like living in the desert after spending his whole life surrounded by green?

My dad struggles the most with this change. My mom and brother and sister all seem to really enjoy it here. I know they enjoy having me closer and I try to do stuff with them often. My dad has always suffered with depression issues and the whole flood thing just really broke him. He's 68 and very set in his ways and I don't know if PHX will ever feel like home to him. He is the sort of person that can never feel content no matter what...it's like he's content when he has something to worry over. It's a constant stressor for me cause I'm trying so hard to do all I can to help them out here.
My sister has to work like every weekend so one weekend when she can get a day off I'm gonna take them up to northern AZ to spend the day in the mountains away from the heat and desert.

He needs something fun to do to fill his time. An ATV or monster truck? Join a hot air balloon chase team? Teach kids to fish. Teach adults to cook gumbo. Hunt coyotes?
He just needs to make the effort to get involved in things he likes. He would probably hate climbing Camelback. There are a few lakes fairly close that a boat would be good in.
Good luck.

Hey Nursie.
You're doing good things for your dad. Live it up.
I'm a little opposite of you. My dad thrives on change. It's hard to keep up. I'm going to see him next weekend. His only advice lately is to keep buying bitcoins and use a VPN.
Next week it'll be buy silver. Then I need to get a airplane. Never stops.

Problem is that my dad can't walk for far distances anymore. So he's not active at all. Anywhere we go that has a lot of walking I have to push him in a transport wheelchair. My family is also really poor so anything has to be on a tight budget.
He basically has no hobbies except sitting at home watching tv. Which only adds to his depression imo. There is a casino near them and they all love playing penny/nickel slots so they do go there on occasion(but stick to a strict budget for the night...like $30 a person and then they are done). He hates reading. Likes to fish and I've encouraged that...but he just won't go. There are tons of man made lake/ponds in parks all over the area that they stock with fish and people fish in(you buy a city fishing license for like $25 a year). There is one a mile from where they live. He just won't go...and now it's too hot to go.
Trying to get him to go to church on a regular basis(he has shown interest in this). There are a couple churches right by where they live at. Figured it is something for him to do, that doesn't cost money, and can be positive and uplifting. Also could be a great way for them to meet people in their area. My mom really wants to go as well. She was in a bible study back in BR and I know she really misses the friends she made in bible study there.
ETA: Sorry for the short story...I'm just at my wit's end. I just want my dad to be happy here. It's a shame the whole pregnancy thing didn't pan out cause that could have been huge for him. They want a grandchild so bad and being able to live near their grandkid would have been a huge positive for him. That ship hasn't sailed just yet...but very close to.

Good morning OT and great day Dads.
The greatest father in my life wasn't even my father. Sad? Nah. He was a great man.
After watching last nights white knuckle Tigers win with leftcoastjr its off the the ballpark for some Angels baseball.
