So you haven't seen TPB or can't remember due to your advanced age and pain killer addiction?

Rouge is your pain medication ordered prn or scheduled?

I'm guessing it is ordered prn...which means "as needed".

Which means that if is ordered prn(as most pain meds usually are in the hospital) you don't just get it every 4 hours on the dot. You have to request it. Now if you requested the med 52 minutes ago...then you have the right to be angry. The nurse should give you some explanation.

Also...nurses technically have a 30 minute window before and after a med is due to give it. When you have 5-7 patients and they all have meds due at 9 am...kinda hard to be in 7 places at once don't you think?

Figured this would be the response. I was banging an ER nurse a few months back and I didn't realize how shorthanded hospitals can get during certain times of the day/night.

Certain times? Try all of the time. When hospitals are facing budget issues the first tactic to save money is not have as many nurses working. They figure they will just make the nurses take more patients than they normally take so it saves money.

Each unit in a hospital usually has a set patient to nurse ratio. Number will depend on the unit and how sick the patients are.

Your watching 'General Hospital', is NOT the same thing as banging an ER nurse, Bud.

To be fair...that could be true. She could have been in another patient room when you called for the med. The person who answered the call light forgot to tell her that her patient had called for meds.

When I was on the floor we carried phones with us during our shift so they could just call us and tell us this stuff if we were stuck in another patient room.

Nah I get it. I mean..she could just be a shitty nurse, they do exist.

Sorry you didn't get your pain meds in a timely matter. I would be pissed over that as well. Instead of preventing that pain scale 6 pain from jumping to a 10...you are having to wait until the 10 comes down to a more acceptable level.

I've never had to be in a hospital as a patient, I would imagine I would make a horrible patient though. Have always heard that nurses are the worst patients.
