Crayton's girlfriend, when reached by telephone on Thursday, called Griffen's statement a lie and said that neither she nor Crayton was armed.

Crayton is survived by his mother, Elizabeth, and his sister, Jamie. Jamie Crayton said the family is relieved to have a suspect in custody. She called her brother a laid back person who loved sports and loved to joke and laugh.

She admitted that Crayton had a drug problem, but declined to give any specifics. Jamie Crayton said Griffin called their mother three days before the shooting and threatened to kill her brother over the drug debt.

"He shot my brother over $20," she said. "I hope he rots in Hell."
