Back to your floors. If you are pulling up carpet, look to see if the slab is in good condition. It it is, consider staining and sealing the slab.

You will have to put down some quarter-round/shoe-mold to cover the crack where the carpet and pad were located, and will probably have to fill some small holes in the foundation from carpet tacks. Easy maintenance.

If you don't do that, put down some tile.

Did you install your own? Some of that stuff looks pretty slick.

Anyone know how easy it is to convert light fixtures from this:

to something more modern?

Does doing this not make the house seem cold and cheap? I have heard of this but never actually seen in action.
