I need an original copy of my birth certificate to get a passport. I was born in Louisiana. Who do I call? Louisiana Vital Records?

well good luck bro.

I'm in the process of applying for my passport AND a marriage license.

Had to send my only original copy of my BC for the passport app. I am praying to get it back in time to apply for the marriage license before my wedding at the end of November.

Where are you located? The stupidest thing I found out recently is that if you live in Baton Rouge, you can't go into the Clerk of Court's office and walk out with a birth certificate. You can order online or order at the kiosk at the parish health center (which means they mail it to you), or you can drive to one of these participating Clerks of Court in another parish and get it in hand that day.

I've used VitalCheck 2 or 3 times. They usually have your BC to you within a couple of days.

I can get it for you. I work at that department. Just send me your SS number, Driver's license, any passports you might have, another proof of ID like a credit card, and $150 cash

Isn't the central depository of state vital records in New Orleans? Most parishes also produce their own local version of a certified copy, but for a federal document like a passport I'd bet that they would probably require a birth certificate issued on the state level.

Go to the Clerk of Court in your parish. The Clerks are connected to the state vital records system and are authorized to issue copies of your birth certificate that are identical to the one you would get from the state vital records office. They can also issue what are called birth cards that are cheaper but are used only in Louisiana for such things as enrolling your kid in school or signing them up for certain athletic programs.

Apparently in those parishes where there is a public health office competing for the business the clerks aren't allowed to issue them. This is a cash cow for both offices.
