Anyone have experience with body work at Gerber in Baton Rouge? This is the place my insurer recommends.
Any recommendations in BR area?
TIA

I haven't personally but have had several friends use gerber in Hammond and they were all happy with the work

They reccomended Gerber because they'll cut corners like the INS company wants.

They can recommend gerber to write the estimate, but can't recommend them for the repairs. It's illegal to steer someone to a shop for repairs.
And why would a shop cut corners to be paid less, and do shoddy work?
ETA since parts prices don't change and labor rates charged are pretty much all the same for the shops in an area/city/town, any shop can write an estimate.
Eta again, gerber is a nationwide network of shops. They're big enough to where they aren't cutting corners for anyone.

I think some body shops will give insurance companies better deal on labor to get more work from that insurance company

Also illegal.
Ins companies cannot send someone to a shop for repairs. Shops will gladly write estimates for ins companies in hopes of getting the business.
No insurance company wants to get caught up in a bad faith suit, especially in LA where the society is super litigious.
Eta think about it. Parts prices are set by the suppliers, and labor rates charged are what's deemed customary for the area. So the only way a shop can make themselves stand out is by volunteering to write estimates and doing better work than the next guy. You don't increase quality by charging less and cutting corners.

Gerber in Harahan did some work on my wife's( no pics ) car and it came out great. No complaints here. This location even has an Enterprise rental attached so we handled everything in one trip.

Insurance companies now work with approved vendors that if you choose to use then there is no adjuster or estimate required ahead of work. This is usually stated at the time of "recommendation". It's not a recommendation but rather an approved vendor.

Champs was bought by Gerber... They're service isn't bad, but When the were Champs, before the buy out, it was much better..

They are not requiring that I use Gerber, this just happens to be their go to shop. I have no experience in BR with body shops, hence the request for anyone's experience with Gerber.
Insurer is Geico.
Any suggestions as to where to get a 2nd estimate.

Right, hey still have no say in where you get your car repaired.

Probably would not hurt to keep Gerber in mind while getting a second estimate. It's not in the insurer's interest to lose customers by suggesting bad shops the way they did in the past.
Cannot recommend Owens Collision. Had my truck broken into and the extended cab frame enclosing the side window was dented badly from being jimmied with a small pry bar.
They did not feather out the sanding at the repair and the paint peeled within a year, yet they wanted to charge me for fixing what they should have done in the first place.

I used Gerber in New Orleans on Carrollton multiple times and I was very pleased with the work and the service. hopefully this is the case throughout the company.
