Gaslamp Bar in midtown Houston responds to allegations of racial discrimination

HOUSTON - The doormen at The Gaslamp bar in Midtown welcomed a steady flow of patrons inside on Sunday.
But a group of African American men said they weren't shown any hospitality on Friday night when they claim the doormen told them it would cost $20 to get inside.
"And we just sat across the street and watched and we noticed that all of the Caucasian people were able to get in without paying the 20 dollar cover," said Dan Scarbrough.
"This is 2015 and we're supposed to be living in post racial America but this is what's going on," said Ken Piggee.
The men shared their experience on Facebook. Their post included pictures of what they were wearing that night and images of the doormen. The post has already been shared several thousand times.
But the Gaslamp's attorney said the midtown establishment has been mischaracterized.
"We see a lot of people rushing to judgment," said Tim Sutherland. "And that's fine to get behind a movement but you should explore all the facts."
Sutherland also said the men were charged a cover because they were attempting to go to one of the upper floors where a cover is always required to everyone except VIP members.

That's expecting a lot in modern America.

They didn't prevent them from entering, and we are supposed to believe that them damned honkys didn't pay a cover because those guys said so?

Were they trying to get in without women?

No idea if the bar's statement is true or not.
But this doesn't surprise me if it really is the case that they were trying to charge them for general admission.
City Bar in BR is absolutely horrible with this. Big group of us girls went out one night, and one of our friends is black. She's a petite, pretty girl. They wouldn't let her in because her dress was "too short".. it was longer than my own dress.
Friend of mine posted this past weekend on FB that she saw a black girl denied access for wearing a shirt that showed midriff, but when she (my friend) got inside, she saw several white girls wearing crop tops.. many of which were way too fat to even be wearing them.
I've watched the workers walk through the line and point out girls that can't get in for wearing "spandex" (leggings are pretty much the 20-something fall uniform these days FYI).. coincidentally, all black.
I'm not one to jump on the race stuff, but how that bar gets away with their profiling is beyond me.

Plenty of white people also pay cover there. I'm sure blacks do more often though. Also can they get away with it since they aren't turning people away? Rather charging a cover and it is up to the customer to decide whether to pay?
But look at the guys. No 40 year old looking dude is gonna get in without paying cover. White or black
I also expect all the SJW types to be in an uproar over women not paying cover. Blatant sexism.

I've gotten in to Gaslamp free at times. Other times they have cover. It just depends on when you try to get in, and these guys are idiots.
I'm White fwiw.

Why would anyone want to go anywhere that charges a cover on a Sunday, if you're not in vegas/Miami?
Why do they assume it was because they were black, and not because they are middle aged guys who are not ridiculously good looking, and trying to get in without any women in tow. As much as I hate clubs, if I'm going to one in Vegas with a long line, I realize I need to have girls with me or pay for bottle service to get in.

I live a few blocks from here
First, that place sucks
Second, they def discriminate. About 15 of us went over the summer, only the middle eastern looking guy paid a cover

Not gonna lie, when I read this post, I immediately pictured a couple of black dudes wearing sports jerseys, baggy arse jeans and flat bill hats. (Seems like standard going out apparel around here).
Well, I looked at the actual Facebook post and one guy had on a sports coat and jeans, and the other had slacks and a dress shirt. (Think the 3rd had a sports coat on also).
Sorry for stereotyping my black brethren.
