It's done. Thinking of DIY this weekend. Have any of you replaced one? How easy/difficult was it to replace? What brand did you buy? Chamberlain models are advertised prominently online as "the best".

7" opening with aluminum door.

Thx for any advice.

for your troubles

You have the smallest garage I've ever heard of. My daughter's Barbie house has one a little larger than that I think.

I'm guessing. Could be 8. I'm tired. Kids are out of school now and they like to keep me awake with tales of broken garage door openers. I didn't measure just yet.

What's the most difficult issue you've had in installation?

Springs are known to kill people if you don't respect them. Is it difficult? no. Is it very, very critical? yes.

Keeping the wires tucked in. When on new construction we would pre-wire to hide the wires. Over tightening the chain or belts. The DIY are a little harder because the bar from the motor to the wall is in 3 pc's vs the one pc's that is not sold at the big box stores. Don't pinch the wires if stapling or using the supplied insulated tacks, the coating is thin and will short easily.
The garage size will not matter on a smaller door, they are far 7' and 8' ht. doors, and can handle up to 18' wide.

So replacing vs new construction install is potential rewiring problems. The hardware swap out seems fairly straightforward.
Just watched a 3 min video. Seems pretty easy! Takes 3 mins!

Thx. Other than opening with your phone, what's the wifi benefit you like?
