Interesting read from the WAFB meteorologist. Crazy that the tornado in Assumption parish likely started out down by Baldwin and Franklin, yet went undetected due to poor radar coverage.

Seems to me this is something that needs to be addressed. No need to continue funding research and more studies on the BR Loop that's never going to happen when better radar coverage for BR and S. La. is necessary.

Assume it is like cellphones. Better resolution comes at the trade-off of less area.

I believe the problem arose when Slidell went offline. MSY, LFT, and BTR have WX radar, but the range is limited. The coupled NOAA radars are League City , Lake Charles, Slidell, and Mobile. Mobile due to curvature could not cover that far out, and it was on the outer range of Lake Charles, thus the gap. MSY didn't have the range.

Ah, didn't know Slidell went offline. Surprised the local BR radars aren't used to aid NOAA.
