Woman's hospital. My daughters dr ordered her to have some blood work done at woman's hospital (from pediatric clinic just across street) and she specifically asked if it would be covered on with the co-pay on our plan with BCBS, and the dr said it Would be. Well low and behold we get the bill in the mail for nearly 400 dollars for the lab and insurance is telling us an "outpatient hospital's lab" is subject to the deductible. So maybe this advice can save you a few dollars. Tl;dr if the dr orders you to have lab work and you have BCBS go to labcorp or quest and it will be covered.

Ive gone through this exact same thing and when I tried working it out on either end it turned into a giant shell game. The only way I could rectify it is go to the billing office at the hospital and have a conference call with BC/BS which resulted in it being re-coded correctly by the hospital, re-submitted and covered by BC. It can be a pain dealing with insurance BS.

The OB said it happens all the time, which is baffling to me. You'd think they'd get their system fixed so they can get paid.

At the end of the day, my insurance with BCBS has paid more in coverage than I'll ever pay in premiums, so I'll always be grateful, but getting things billed and paid properly required entirely too much work on my end, IMO. Someone with no sense would have been fricked.

That's exactly what hospitals and insurance companies bank on and why they both have endless cash flows.

Funny this came up, we sat at Labcorp today for 2 hours doing glucose tests for my pregnant wife. BCBS won't cover Woman's lab. Supposedly the doctors at Woman's are trying to get the lab reclassified so BCBS will cover it. Even our OB @ Woman's has to go to Labcorp.

frick Labcorp, those people working there are morons

Interesting. This might explain why my OB at Woman's does her own labs, instead of sending me downstairs to the Woman's Lab. Her group is merging with another group at Woman's in the Fall, I hope this doesn't change anything...

nearly 400 dollars

My daughter had labs drawn last year. Bill was over $900 and I work in a hospital. Insurance is straight crap now. Thanks Obama and your shite "Affordable" Care Act.

ETA: slackster, LabCorp is who sent us the comically large bill too.

Same thing happened to us with BCBS and LabCorp. I called LabCorp and they took care of it.

Not sure how this is Woman's fault. Not all insurance companies allow you to use them. The doctor may practice at Woman's but doesn't work for them. He gave you bad info.

It's not woman's hospitals fault at all. I'm just letting people know that BCBS plans don't cover the lab at woman's hospital.

If your EOB states it is subject to deductible then they do cover it, you just have to pay your deudictable before they start paying, so you bad mouthing them is not entirely correct

But the information you are giving is incorrect, if BCBS is stating that it is applied to deductible , then it is ,covered, if it was a non covered charge it would not be applied to your deductible

No I'm saying that the hospital lab is subject to deductible while "independent labs" are covered 100% not subject to deductible.
