Hit by a truck walking to school. I don't understand why people aren't more careful when driving around schools. He was a great kid who had a great life ahead of him.

Yeah we know. My few questions are, it states on Cockerham Rd. Isn't there sidewalks there now I believe? Was the kid actually walking in the road? If so why?

Driver is not suspected to be under the influence. No reason why the kid would be walking in the road if there are indeed sidewalks which I"m 99% sure there are now.

he was most likely either crossing or the truck jumped the curb.

Driver on phone? Is so, throw the book at em. This is becoming a serious problem.

I read on another source he was trying to cross the road. Not sure really who is in the wrong here. The truck was old and beat up though. I'm sure the driver was an outstanding memeber to society that was on his way to another post flood demo job.

Amazed that everyone is quick to blame the driver when the kid may be at fault more than anyone.

Cockerham is a 2 lane road with no shoulder, with ditches right off the road. Walking on that street is rather dumb, especially considering the speed limit is 55, and it's not in a school zone.

Alert! Watch out for old beat up trucks that kill. Also look out for people actually driving to work at 7 am instead of the crackheads on the corner. Damn there are some ignorant posters in here this morning.

I agree. I see kids walking across the roads almost daily without a care in the world in regards to traffic.

So it appears the kid was hit probably in the middle of the street based on the damage. Lookie there. Sidewalks on both sides of the road. Looks as if maybe kid walked or ran across street and made it only to the middle ya think? Driver does not look to be in the wrong here based on picture alone.

With sidewalks that kid should have been safe.

I dodge kids all the time in Ascension on the roads we have with no sidewalk. It's dangerous!
