Hmm, 3 of my least favorite parades in that headline. Not shocked.

Yeah, I know when I think about NOLA Mardi Gras, the first thing that comes to mind is "appropriate"

Exactly. Mardi Gras is not supposed to be about irreverence, overturning social conventions and extravagant behavior. It's been a very staid holiday since the Puritans brought it to America.

One man's trash is another man's hilarious set of Mardi Gras beads.

Technically I would bet most krewes don't allow that. Kind of hard to enforce though. Of course you will see it on Bourbon though.

The first year I rode 15 years ago I threw little vibrators to women that I recognized on the route.

That's what cracks me up about the attacks on Spanish Town the last few years. The same people that used to love it's irreverence are now railing against it.

Saw this
quote:

The beads also would be in violation of city code section 34-28(b), which defines acceptable throws:

"No Mardi Gras parade participant shall knowingly throw any doubloon, trinket or other throw which would be redeemable for or entitle the bearer to a prize or a discount on the price of any food, beverage, merchandise, service or admission to any event or which displays, conveys or communicates any commercial, political or religious message," it reads.
Isn't Mardi Gras itself a religious message?

When did this start exactly? I remember wooden Sonic doubloons as a kid.

Don't go if you don't like it. Just like the people who were pissed about the players kneeling. It's not "your" Mardi Gras.

Yea because officials are gonna be able to check the mounds and mounds of throws before they roll.
