I know we've had this thread before but I couldn't find it. I'm deciding on the 5.0 V8 or the 3.5 turbo V6. They look similar in power, with the V6 getting better mpg. Is that really the case? Is the mpg overstated with the V6? Anyone have problems with the V6?

The 2.7 is a 6 cylinder.

I plan on going 5.0 when I buy mine. But it's mainly for the exhaust note The 3.5 moves, and the turbos sound awesome.

what are you going to do with it? Will it be a road warrior or are you actually going to use it like a truck? I have a 2011 F150 and a 2016 F150, both with 302s in them. My dad has a 2013 F150 with the ecoboost in it. My dad has had to pay out of pocket to have a new motor and two turbos on it ($14k) because his motor blew up and wasn't covered, I've had zero issues with either of mine.

Alll three trucks loaded similarly with toolboxes and tools in them as work trucks and both of my V8s get better gas milage than he does. If empty, he would probably get slightly better.

I pull a trailer with mine carrying my 11k lb mini-excavator on it for two hours at a shot and have no issues except steep hills. he can do it too but I wouldn't try it for extended periods.

Got the 5.4 liter and no issues. Heard bad things about the 6 cylinder. Sorry can't really help.

I don't tow. It'll likely be 2WD. 50/50 mix of highway and city driving.

Buddy of mine has the big v6 twin turbo. He leveled it and put a little bit bigger tires on it and gets 14mpg. And it sounds like a peanut picker. And he has a v6 in a full size truck. Get the damn v8

It just seems so small for a full size truck.

Why buy a truck with less than 8 cylinders?

I have 2010 V8 Larait 4x4 that I've used for work the last 4 years. I've done the regular scheduled maintenance on it. Let me tell you how disappointed I am in this product. I hope they've fixed all the bullshite I've gone through with this truck when I buy a new one in a few months. I've been a Ford guy since my first vehicle and have never had any problems but this truck has been an absolute nightmare with the issues.

Yeah instinctively I want the V8 but the 3.5 had me interested with the mpg and performance. But this thread has me thinking V8

The twin turbos help

I have the same engine in my Edge Sport, and it runs a low 14 second 1/4 mile. We have a super crew XL with the 2.7 at work, and it's surprisingly quick too (or so I've heard )

The issues with Ecoboost seem to mostly be concentrated in the previous gen F150. You have to remember that people that don't have issues aren't going to be as vocal as those that have issues. They sell a lot of these trucks, so most aren't having issues.

I used to have a 2007 Edge and I loved it. Moved great with the V6. And I know the 2.7 puts out good power but it just seems so small for a truck.

I had a 2012 Ecoboost. Liked it at first but started having issues around 50K miles. Traded it in on a 2016 with the 5.0 V8. So glad I did...improved gas mileage is a stretch. I get better in the V8 than in the V6 by almost 1.4 mpg.

I know probably 7 or 8 people with Ecoboost F150s. 5 of them including myself have the timing chain issue. It's bullshite man
