Parking lots on the riverside are all but gone.

Catching boats from the levees now.

Decision on whether or not to open the Bonnet Carre comes Saturday, Morganza after that.

Any word if they'll shut down river traffic at a certain level?

What's the scuttlebutt?

As a bonus, here's either a picture of the smartest bird on the river or a sea monster.

Don't know, but realize we have a bunch of poors on the OT due to the lotto threads.... It's a shame. It used to be better than just the PJ trailor living, pastslaya eating, sweet tea drinking people around these parts

I might head out to BC tomorrow to check it out. When the water gets high, it is usually flowing over that road up by the gates and the airplane thing

Or, at least, they'd lie about it.

Ok I won't be a dick. This is a shot out my apt window at 1:47am and the little dots between the building looks to be river traffic. So it's obviously still moving at the port of New Orleans

Do you hear the city noise from you apartment?

I never sleep when I'm there in town.

Although, I can't go back to sleep now and it's dead quiet.

Oh it's definitely still moving at this point.

But if it gets too high, say at the low point in Baton Rouge, they'll shut down river traffic or else the wake of passing ships could push debris over the tops of the levees or break through sandbags.

My old apt id hear the jazz bands pretty loud leaving the Roosevelt and the Jesuit church but I had open windows and on the 7th floor.

Now I'm on the 16th floor and can only barely hear the street car and sometimes when they have the entire band going at it at canal and bourbon. For the most part it super quiet.

The river is moving fast fast right now. Usually does that when it's dropping, except it's rising now. Just a tremendous amount of water flowing down right now and it's all coming our way.

If there's anyone out there doing rain dances, we should probably get a coonass crew to go break their legs.

The Vickburg river report isn't so great:

Funny you say that. Today I went meet someone for lunch and was walking back from Canal place and a 2nd district fire truck was blowing it's sirens like crazy headed to the International house on Gravier and Camp and I paid it no mind. Just a normal day, but when I glanced back I swear everyone on the street and sidewalk had stopped what they were doing to go watch some granny get put in a stretcher because she ate bad oysters... fricking society
