So I was supposed to be going to the Keys on Saturday but my 4 year old just came down with the flu so obviously that's not going to happen. We are gonna try again in April.

Our flights are booked on Delta, has anyone ever had any luck getting flights changed without paying the fee for an illness situation?

It depends on which class fare you booked.

They have been known to bend the rules a bit but if your fare was non-refundable don't expect a refund, possibly they might let you move your dates with a fee.

Good luck.

Delta always charges $ to change flights.

Good luck.

Good luck on that one. When my grandmother died I had originally had a flight booked in 3 weeks to go visit her. Tried explaining my situation to them to see if they could just move the date so I could now fly to LA for the funeral. They moved it, said "Sorry for your loss"....and charged me $150 flight change fee.

The one solid thing they did was only charge me for it once(normally they charge you the $150 fee for EACH flight...so your flight going there AND the one returning).

I tried to delay a connection flight this week to the day after. Delta quoted 300$. For a 40 minute flight. Ended up driving the rental car home instead.

So you paid for a flight and a rental car?

Check your insurance policy. Probably doesn't cover illness

I had to have a doctor fill out the insurance form. After it was reviewed by the insurance company it took about 12 weeks to get my refund in.

Most airlines have death/sickness of family member clauses for refunds of otherwise non-refundable fares. I don't know Delta's, but maybe they do.

nope...I have had that situation several times and never been able to get them to waive the fee. shite man, think about it...they charge you extra for a tablespoon of peanuts.

this kind of shite has made me come to despise air travel. I will drive 8 hours without thinking twice just to avoid flying.
