Not allowed by Army Regulation to carry an umbrella while in uniform. I think the same applies for the USMC.

Remember this flap?

ETA: Apparently the reg has changed and they are authorized for use in the Class A or B dress uniform.

Sal, I don't remember any of that. I'm just curious as to reasoning behind rule. Does military feel like it sends a gay type message, in that you're a sissy? Can umbrella be used as a weapon? what's behind the rule?

That's the reason you'd hear in the barracks.

I'm not sure what the history is. Maybe something to do with keeping the hands free to render salutes to officers.

There is no huge significance. The military prides itself on the uniforms. Anything that takes away from the uniform from an appearance perspective is usually forbidden. For example, cell phones can be clipped to the belt, but they must be placed in the back near their spine obstructed from view from the front.

The uniform regs are really changing these days, especially from the Navy's stand point.

EDIT: Of course, carrying an umbrella to stay dry is once big reason. :D

But most branches have some sort of over coat or jacket that is worn on the top of the uniform to protect from the weather. This is why it's prohibited to be carried on most uniforms. Each version of said uniform normally has some type of jacket.

Some of these stolen valor videos are funny and some are just sad and low.

I think it's a really low thing to do but I don't think that is something someone should get an arse beating for. I used to not believe that until recently.

Soon enough someone will abuse social media and will start videoing themselves accusing homeless peoe of it just because they are wearing army pt shirts or an acu top that they received from th Salvation Army or a homeless shelter

How this post received a down vote is beyond me.

You've laid the law down in several posts in this thread

FALSE. US Navy personnel can also carry umbrellas in certain uniforms, as well as all the other branches.

The Navy and AF also wear those terrible trench coats like creepy dudes who flash people.

I do agree there is no reason to post it online, it would be better to buy the guy a bunch of beers and then pull him out in an alley when he was hammered and kick the shite out of him.

Yeah, agreed! Let's assault a guy for wearing a particular piece of clothing! #Merica

We were issued trench coats in the Army but never wore them. Mines hanging in the closet with the original plastic on it, 16 years later.

The man in fatigues is a poser/loser for sure, but the guy filming is a bigger douche bag by far.
