so you can identify with a gender other than the one chromosomes gave you? Gender can now be a mental concept?
Take the chick in Orange is the New Black for example (not the hot one).
She was born a man with all the male working parts but always felt herself as a female and had (top and bottom) surgery to put her body where her mind always was.
There's a Transgender pornstar named Buck Angel who says "he's a dude with a pussy" - or something along those lines. If you saw this guy walking down the street you would literally have no idea he was born a female.
I'm all for letting people live the way they want to live as adults. I think things get really hairy when you are talking about putting a young person on hormones because they identify as a different sex. There was a show on TLC about a young transgender person called "I am Jazz" (born male, identifies female) and I don't think she was even in her teens when her parents started her hormone treatments.

I thought that was transsexual.

Why can't a person decide what race they are as well? I mean, race seems more ambiguous than XX vs. XY or penis vs. vagina. Is there such thing as transracial?
Just curious.
Just curious.

Cisgender is a term to describe a person whose gender identity and/or expression is the same as their birth sex. i.e. Someone who is identified as male at birth and grows up to identify as a man.
The term Trans is inclusive of the Trans umbrella, but not limited to, identities such as:
· Transgender
· Transsexual
· Crossdresser
· Genderqueer
· Male-to-female (MtF)
· Female-to-male (FtM)
· Androgynous
· Non-gendered

It's a pretty incomplete definition

Transgender, transsexual, and genderqueer are not the same thing

I know. I'm just trying to dumb it down for musick. It's all under the "trans" umbrella (so says my link)

It needs to be dumbed down further. So when does a transgender person become transsexual? Because I thought it was surgery but you clearly stated that Orange is the New Black person had surgery but they are still transgender.
So if they had surgery to become the other gender are they still transgender or are they now the gender they altered their body to be?
So is a transsexual ALSO a transgender or once they have the surgery do they identify with said gender they converted too?
Just seems very convoluted to me.

You can "identify" as whatever you want to be. Perhaps you'd like to be a dolphin?

Gender is not your sex, it's how you identify yourself. You can be a man who identifies as a woman. Your sex is male, but your gender is female.
A transgender is someone whose gender is not the same as their sex.
A transsexual is one who undergoes procedures to align their gender with their sex.
After surgery, are they still transgender? They say yes because they are afraid of losing that extra barrier of protection afforded by the pc media.
A genderqueer, or nonbinary, is someone who doesn't conform to the traditional constructs of gender or sexual identification. They don't believe in constraints on sexual freedom, especially in name.
