Eviation, the company behind one of the most advanced projects to deliver an all-electric aircraft for commercial services, has unveiled the interior of its electric plane with 440 miles of range.

It includes several configurations for different applications.

After Eviation unveiled the prototype of its Alice aircraft back in 2017, the company attracted a lot of attention and comparison with Tesla because the aircraft was amongst the first all-electric plane that was viable for actual commercial use.

It boasted a range of up to 600 miles (965 km) and a capacity of up to nine passengers, making it viable for some short-haul regional airlines.

Earlier this year, Eviation unveiled the production version of its aircraft and unfortunately, the range was reduced to 440 nautical miles. However, it is still viable for plenty of short routes, especially in the form factor of the aircraft, which is bigger than most battery-electric aircraft projects to date.

What happens if there’s an issue at the airport and you’re forced to circle the airport for 30 minutes until they find a place for you to land?

Just like planes have to have a certain amount of fuel I’d think you would be able to run the battery to its limits on a flight. I’d hope they’d leave leeway.

I wouldn’t get on one right now

You should call them; they probably never thought of that.

That article leaves out a lot of important information. For one, what does this cost, and second, what is its cruise and stall speed?

Pilots will have to adjust from the current method of flying around with infinite fuel.

I assume they plan of having zero battery health and capacity monitoring capabilities. I personally enjoy the “frick it” strategy.

I understand how planes work. Still affects the viability of commercial electronic aircraft.

Are the batteries affected by temperature at altitude? I just have a bad feeling about this, even if unwarranted

Batteries are always impacted by temperature. I can only assume they have designed for that.

All these “what if” / “what about” posts. Yeah, I’m sure they didn’t think of any of that.

For anyone who wants a high overview of how this plane is expected to be utilized

youtube

This guy is extremely bullish on renewable energy, so some of his statements are charged with positivity that will take years to accomplish. Still a good look at what this technology is trying to address.
