Ever have a carefully planned trip just fall apart by the time you're ready to leave?

Planned this great family trip to the mountains. Big house, big enough for the whole family. With a pool, outdoor kitchen, hot tub, stuff for the kids. Right off a lake. Everything we wanted.
Bit of a drive but most of it a nice drive.

Planned so everyone could come.
Well, the best made plans of mice and men, right?

First someone's job location changes, so the destination that would have been doable, no longer. Oh well, they'll be missed.

Date getting closer and closer. Plans being made. Things being booked and paid for.

Then someone else can't get the time off. Then another. For various reasons. You soldier on.

Now a kid has some issues and maybe that whole family can't come possibly. And I get it. It sucks and hopefully everything is all right and it's a big scare for nothing but now some people are sore and...ugh.

So 14 has dwindled down to 5 for possibly most of the trip with some cousins coming later in week.

But...it's disheartening. Money has been spent, supplies collected, menus and stuff planned for a big group.

Leave tomorrow and who knows who's going to be able to come now and what the mood will be.

Still looking forward to the escape and the time together and worried that all the planning was for naught. A big boondoggle and should have just gone to the beach like always.

Tell me I'm being a big ol bitch and to enjoy the trip and time with who comes. I know I will. Even had some hiking sticks made, bespoke, for my brother and I.

From the same piece of domestic mahogany, which barely exists anymore. Wrote a damn poem about it.

Anyway, I'm bummed tonight and was so excited earlier today. Ever had something like this happen?

I know. I shouldn't even complain because at least I'll have a vacation. A lot can't. It's just all these plans are now kaput. Sucks

Sounds like your people just made up a bunch of excuses when they realized they didn’t want to go. It’ll be quieter without em.

shite happens for sure. But the person that committed and all of a sudden can’t get the time off is an a-hole. Sounds like plenty of heads up was given and they committed without caring about the repercussions of not asking off to the person(s) doing the leg work. Hopefully they put down a deposit

We moved the day before we were scheduled to fly to USVI. Movers were roughly 8 hours late(scheduling mistake by company) and short a truck. I paid those guys $1k cash extra to finish that night. I helped them move and at one point went down the street and gave some Mexicans working on a house a few hundred bucks to help move the heavy stuff faster.
We finished at 3am, showered, and made it to MSY for a 6am flight.

It took me 2 days to fully decompress. On the way back, they cancelled our late flight out of Miami and we slept in the airport.

Yes I’ve seen it happen when I was a high school senior. Everyone all in favor of going to a Florida beach. Then when it’s time to go, most couldn’t go for all kinds of reasons. Sucks if you’re the planner. You’ll probably enjoy it, just not as much as if more people would have went.

I knew a guy who planned a bird hunting trip in South Dakota. The day of the departure his buddies called him from the airport wondering where he was. He had scheduled his vacation on the wrong week.

Brother, I feel your pain.

There isn’t enough recognition for the dads out there that bust their arse and do their best to deliver for the family but have to deal with all the shite that entails. The fact that you even went the extra mile for extended family is worth some stripes.

I raise glass to you tonight. frick it…go have fun.

It might end up being the best vacation you ever have in your life. Just go with an open mind and try to enjoy whatever happens.

Didn’t read all the reasons. Were any of them travel ball?

Sorry your trip went to shite. I’ve got a party of 16 heading to see Mickey for Mardi Gras. We’ve set up the rooms via Disney vacation club. Told the other 11 to take care of their plans. I’ve got my 5. Seems to be the only way.

Honestly, its hard to plan something like a vacation with more than 3 or 4 people.

You have to make sure everyone is on the same page and all in. If not, don't count them in. You make your plans for you and the people you are responsible for or who is definitely all in. You give the others the information and they can make their own plans.

But you can't plan anything with more than 3 or 4 people and expect it to go smooth. Take care of what you have to do to go and everyone else will either come or not. If they do, great.. If they don't.. oh well.

I mean part of me feels like an a-hole I'm even annoyed. Legit medical issues that i hope are nothing with a family member. But I was really looking forward to fun family time, all the cousins and siblings together. Now, who knows.

My brother and I planned this trip and now it feels like it's all gone to shite. And will be blamed because we deviated from the normal.
