Its really heartbreaking when it gets bad. Because of distance, I didn't get to see my grandmother much, but seeing her several years ago was hard, then when I saw her in September was horrible. She had long since forgotten who any of us were, but she could no longer babble, much less talk. She passed 2 days later.
Eventhough she didn't know us, I think deep down she did, and she took the visit by my Mom, uncle and I, as permission to go.(went peacefully)
Its a horrible disease I wouldn't wish on anyone.

My dad told us he had it right before he committed suicide. There were other factors but we think he was afraid of what was on the horizon .

my sweet mother died from alzheimers in 2012. we took care of her to the end. saddest thing I have ever witnessed. dad refused to put mom in a rest home. thinking back on it brings tears to my eyes.

My Mom's in the early stages of dementia. Not crazy yet, but a little paranoid, defensive, doesn't believe she's as bad as the medical people say.
