We must not let North Baton Rouge Become the new 9th Ward

quote:

Much like New Orleans’ 9th ward, north Baton Rouge has a high population of African Americans. The fight for economic development, access to healthcare, and criminal justice reform have all been at the front of the conversation in north Baton Rouge for years. With the events of late, north Baton Rouge has become even more vocal about the need for real, systemic change. The question is, will this flood push a struggling community further away from the progress it desperately needs.

quote:

I’m concerned about those who have the least, who undoubtedly lost the most – because recovery for them isn’t calling an insurance agent and renting an apartment until their home is repaired. It’s much more complex and difficult.

If you've worked hard, gone to college, had strong work ethics and do the right things as an employee, you can buy your own home. And THEN, it really is that fricking easy. There is your road map Gary.

The OT once again links an article written by Gary, which will be filled with people saying they don't give a frick what he says.

so stop fricking linking this dude. You are playing right into his hands by giving him maximum exposure.

You know what I've been doing the last few days? I haven't called 1 insurance company either. I've been out there busting my arse for my family, friends and even neighbors or other people I don't know.

Maybe Sir Fatty Chambers, if your community that you represent wasn't so selfish and cared about each other like people in other communities do, shite would get done. But that's too difficult. It's a lot easier to wait for hand outs and to have other people do the work.

For example, a guy I work with has this chick that he talks to that's renting or getting a house given to her off of greenwell street close to Joor. Instead of cleaning it up, he said she has left every thing and just wants the insurance money as she has already been given somewhere else to stay in New Orleans. All he wants is to give her his SS# so he can get in on the money since his house wasn't flooded.

Its people like him, who set the people who listen to him, back. Instead of working hard to be successful, what he does is giving them a reason to not do so. They think "I can't get myself out of this place because I am black".

He pretty much exploits his own people so he can feel as if he has some type of "power".

I think there's a difference in reach and effect reach. Just because Gary gets viewership doesn't necessarily mean he is a successful journalist.

The majority of his viewers are people appalled by his racism and insensitivity to law enforcement and Caucasian flood victims.

Because that's the way of the OT. Instead of just letting shite like this go by and no one really read it, they post this bullshite on here and give him the attention he wants.

The OT does this same shite with SJW bullshite or pretty much anyone they dislike or don't agree with. They give them the most attention they get that they probably wouldn't get if it wasn't posted here.

No effort should be spared to return it to the shite hole that it was before the flooding.

We really need a tutorial on this board about the difference between "Systematic" and "Systemic"

I can’t tell you I have the solution to all our problems that wait ahead. What I hope, is that we have learned from the mistakes of Katrina. I hope, we will not gentrify north Baton Rouge and call it progress. I hope we will not, in the words of my good friend Cleve Dunn Jr. “manufacture a movement”. I hope we will be as concerned about Lorraine Street as we are with Highland Road. The only way Baton Rouge truly recovers is if north Baton Rouge is a part of that recovery. Government has its role to play in this, but government alone can’t fix this.

All kinds of dumbass in that post. Grammar errors notwithstanding, gentrifying NBR IS progress.

It's pretty much the way their leaders work, a la Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc etc.

It's a shame. Like I always say, I defend a lot of things on here directed towards certain communities because some times I feel the OT takes it too far. However, I just can't defend shite like this, especially with the struggles I've had in life and to where I am now in life. It just pisses me off that we give so many hand outs to people who are just plain lazy and don't need the assistance. They steal it from the people who really need it.
