Does anyone know anything about this situation? There are flashing signs up all around saying this, but I don't know what that entails exactly. Are they going to add the extra lane in one day??? I doubt it.
The only path to my office is Essen Lane, so this is kind of important to some of us...

It's not a through street. The only way to get on it is from Essen Lane. This is a major PAIN!
For some reason, the current signs mention nothing about 9pm, but that makes total sense though.

is it closed for construction, or movie filming?
i know there were some closures this past weekend for filming

And from the other thread:
Get out of here with that logic.
BATON ROUGE, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that Essen Lane will be closed at the railroad crossing south of Interstate 10 starting Friday, July 18 at 9 p.m. through Monday, July 21 at 5 a.m. The weekend-long closure will allow crews from the Kansas City Southern Railway to reconstruct the Essen Lane railroad crossing.
Motorists are suggested to use the following detours during the closure:
Drivers south of the closure traveling north on Essen Lane should take Perkins Road to Bluebonnet Boulevard to detour around the closure.
I-10 eastbound drivers should exit at Acadian Thruway then travel east on Perkins Road to Essen Lane.
I-10 westbound traffic should exit at Bluebonnet Boulevard, travel south to Perkins Road, then west to Essen Lane.
For more information, please visit www.dotd.la.gov, email dotdcs@la.gov, or call DOTD’s Customer Service Center at (225) 379-1232 or 1-877-4LADOTD (1-877-452-3683). Business hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Motorists can also access up-to-date travel information by dialing 511 or by visiting www.511la.org. Out of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).
Additionally, motorists can utilize the new “Way to Geaux” application to receive real-time, around the clock travel alerts. The hands-free, eyes-free smartphone application can be downloaded on any iPhone or Android device by visiting either the iTunes App Store, or Google Play.

Do they need to? Why would you assume they would shut down a major street in the middle of a work day?
People sure do like to give DOTD zero credit.

most of the time road closures are followed with time and length of the closure...not sure why they wouldn't provide that info this time

they'll be widening essen to 3 lanes each direction in the very near future. this R/R construction is to prepare for that.

They included a time last week, but that shouldn't be a reason to remove it now.

It's three lanes from the interstate, only two going towards it.
I'm assuming they are just adding a third lane to the northbound direction, no?

Latest I've seen. LINK
"While plans to overhaul heavily traveled Essen Lane will be delayed, the state is about to launch another widening project on Interstate 12, state Department of Transportation Secretary Sherri LeBas said Monday.
LeBas told the Press Club of Baton Rouge that the letting of contracts for the $7 million expansion of Essen Lane between Perkins Road and I-10 had been set for summer 2014.
But that action has been moved to November 2014 and the work should take 18 to 24 months, she said.
LeBas and Gov. Bobby Jindal announced plans in September to add another northbound lane along the one-mile stretch through Baton Rouge’s major medical corridor.
About 35,000 motorists use that part of Essen Lane daily. The extra lane is supposed to increase capacity by 30 percent."
