Its interesting but she doesnt give anything besides that they should be paid more upfront by the owner and her article stemmed from being weirded out for tipping a friend who worked the coat check.
some of her stuff
1. People don’t even understand what a tip is
Yes they do.
2. Doctors don’t live on tips. Nor do flight attendants.
This whole paragraph is garbage. Oh doctors dont make tips? No shite they arent making tips when theyre making $50k+ a month already. Doctors also went to years and years of school to do what theyre doing.
3. The percentage basis makes no sense
This i I somewhat agree on. I go eat a $200 meal and I'm expected to tip around $40 when I can get away with tipping $10 on a $50 meal. Slippery slope but usually those higher priced places are all filled with experienced staff and the service is expected to be top notch.
4. Better service doesn't actually beget better tips
Agree here also to an extent. You have to really be a shitty server and even then I will still go at least 10%
It perpetuates racism and sexism
Black diners tip less on average than do white diners, and research shows that servers provide black diners with inferior service as a result. The tipping system catches us all in a regressive cesspool of our own worst prejudices.
So lets just ignore that black people dont respect the profession and that tips help the waiter pay his or her bills? Well, the cat is out of the bag and if for some reason tips arent allowed anymore, they are still going to get shitty service because of their previous actions.
