Major ad firm Omnicom recommends clients pause Twitter ad spend - memo
Nov 11 (Reuters) - Advertising and marketing conglomerate Omnicom Group Inc (OMC.N) has recommended that clients pause their spending on Twitter in the short term, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.

Omnicom serves over 5,000 clients in 70 countries, including McDonald's Corp (MCD.N) and Apple (AAPL.O). The memo did not mention clients by name and it is not clear if any have paused Twitter advertising spending.

The move, first reported by tech news site The Verge, emphasizes a growing skepticism among agencies and brands about the micro-blogging site's future since Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover.

“Whilst OMG believes this is unlikely to result in a significantly higher risk environment for advertisers, the risk of being associated with unsafe content could rise and as such should be considered when deciding on use of the platform.”

“Twitter’s ability to maintain their previous level of brand safety measures and effectiveness seem impeded in the immediate term,” according to the memo.

Ad sales represented over 90% of Twitter's revenue in the second quarter.

Last month, U.S. automaker General Motors Co (GM.N) said it had temporarily halted paid advertising on Twitter. read more

The trolling and memes that have come out of his blue check subscription idea have been great though

Twitter literally allowed an account to post child porn for months before Elon took over. People had been complaining about the account and it was ignored by Twitter. Did Omnicom warn their clients then?

Doesn't the ad agency lose a shite ton of money if 5000 clients stop advertising?

They will just direct their client's ad dollars to another outlet or media.

He's not running it into the ground.

It is no longer subsidized privately by John Q tax payer. He is having to find a strategy to keep it afloat. And he's having to do it from scratch, essentially.

More evidence that there is real evil afoot that is devoted to eliminating freedom and free speech. Make no mistake, this has nothing to do with “unsafe content.”
