JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Schools will be out early on eclipse day, with Jefferson Parish schools announcing early dismissal times between 10:15 and 11:20 a.m. ahead of Monday's solar eclipse.

Jefferson Parish Schools Superintendent James Gray made the announcement on Thursday citing safety concerns for students.

"Given that close to 80% of our schools' dismissal times fall during the middle of the eclipse time frame and as dismissal requires our students to be outside," Superintendent. Gray said Thursday. "Jefferson Parish schools will be dismissing students on a modified half-day schedule."

It’ll barely be half an eclipse there. What a clown state.

He does have a point there. But that is continuous and daily.

This is the kinda school closure that people should be pissed about, not the weather related ones.

Our school districts policy came out on Monday.
The kids will not be able to go outside to view the eclipse. For fear of them causing damage to their eyes.
They will not be counted absent from school if the parents keep them home for scientific purposes. I laughed at this. This is in St. John’s county Florida.

Kids are soft these days. We’d be walking home in it. And know to not stare into the sun.

Our kids go to private and they just made us sign a waiver and for the youngest to view I need to go the school and help chaperone, which I’ll gladly do.

My kindergartener is viewing the eclipse with his entire school. They have glasses and whatever other devices for everyone. Private school in JP. This is the laziest shite I've ever read.

That’s not true. I can’t think of one. The earliest one I can think of lets out at 2:10.

The last time there was an eclipse in Alabama my kids’ school dismissed for it. Blew my mind.

Meh, we will have 92% coverage with max eclipse while my kid is on the bus. I am taking them out early so we can view it.
