What is the cause? Is it in Louisiana or Mississippi?

It's been like this for a month now thus I've been avoiding the interstate like the plague.

Or it's due to construction and a lane being closed...

I got off at Exit 68, cut thru Pearl River to I-59 and shaved about 45 minutes off my delay!

I love Google Maps.

ETA: It's so bad right now because DOTD shut down a lane on I-12/I-10 to make road improvements. It's basically a 1-lane Interstate.

It was so bad today at St Tammany deputy was blocking traffic on 90 to help the ones getting off I10 today.

Neighbor said a few weeks ago construction on I10 in Mississippi was backing up I12 before they merge thus the reason for the question.

So yeah since they merge and problem/accidents eastbound on I10 usually back up I12 too.

The title of the OP says BETWEEN Covington and Slidell though

Doesn't really matter anyway, I was just giving you a hard time

The construction that is causing the issue is happening on I-10, East of the 10/12/59 interchange closer to the Mississippi state line (yes there's construction between the mall exit and Hwy 11 exit but that's not the cause of the traffic). So all Eastbound I-12 and Eastbound I-10 traffic is attempting to merge before the construction area, thus causing major back up. On my way home from work tonight at 730pm it was backed up to beyond the Mall exit on 12.

Went through there today westbound. It was horrible. Just to make it more miserable I saw two truckers sitting side by side stopped with about a half mile of nothing in front of them. Surprised someone didn't slit their tires.

Took my wife over 7 hours just to get to Mobile. Then there was a wreck on the bay bridge. She got a room.

If there was only some outlet of information that would release information like this so people could prepare accordingly other than social media....

Oh, wait.

Here's the lineup for this weekend (Friday, July 10-Monday, July 13), according to the DOTD:

The left lane on eastbound I-10 from just north of Gause Boulevard to the West

Pearl River bridge near the I-10 welcome center will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Monday.

The left lane on westbound I-10 through the same area will be closed from 6 p.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All lanes will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on those days.

The left lane of eastbound I-12 between the I-59 overpass and the I-10/I-12 merger will be closed from 3 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Monday.

The right lane of southbound I-59 from the I-10/I-59 split to just south of the rest area will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

DOTD has recommended U.S. 90 through Slidell and into Mississippi as the main alternative route for people seeking to avoid the I-10 construction zone.

You think? There is an hourly day-care next to the hotel she stopped at.
