Check the GIS map for Baldwin County. That one's up to date.

I'll take your word for it. With you on the case, I'll just drink beer and eat popcorn and wait. Thank you for your service.

It doesn’t. The victim and DM and MM never met until 6 months ago when they surrendered Rags to the rescue and the rescue contacted the victim. I saw someone posted something on Reddit that was a pretty good summary. I’ll go find it and post it here.

quote:

He was partially famous due to the custody battle and now is getting to be famous due to the theft. 82 and 84 year old former owners who had another dog beating up on him because he is deaf. They gave Rags up for adoption and transferred legal ownership to the rescue. Rescue did all his medical and found a new owner who had experience with the breed plus medical cases (she's a vet tech actually). They then tried suing the rescue and her. It's been going on for over 6 months. A lot of people in the rescue community are keeping an eye on the battle. And before you ask, yes, the former owners are suspected.

You can get them free at the pound, why would anyone steal a dog.

They log adoptions by state ID, to prevent people who use the dogs as bait dogs from using them as a supplier.

This dog was surrendered to a rescue due to the original owners stating that they could not care for it properly. They are in their 80s. They willingly gave the dog away to the girl in the story.

Similar thing happened to a friend. Old lady in her 80’s living alone and had a Lab she couldn’t walk/ give full attention. Noticed her neighbor with kids had a lab and asked if they’d take it and give it a better home.

Old lady then began peeking through windows and snooping around the house for a week before claiming she was lonely and wanted it back.

The dog was in a kennel at night because it was younger and they didn’t know how it would act open in the new house.

Old lady saw the dog in the kennel while snooping one night and threatened to call animal services for “mistreatment” on her dog and the owners dog.

Gave the dog back and told the old woman what would happen if she comes on the property again..

Extremely sad, but interesting fold with the old couple in Fairhope...

I hope Rags is returned soon!

They’re hiring a private investigator so I’m sure they’ll find him soon. The court date tomorrow will probably get rescheduled.

The news is gonna have a field day when they arrest an 80 year old couple

If it's the old couple, I hope they ... Hell, what can you do to 80 year olds, take away their walkers.

AL.com Article with some updates

Here’s a decent article covering where they are at right now.

Of course things are getting messy on Facebook now that the story is out there.

They have hired a PI so I’m hopeful they figure it out. All out there the old couples names are Dottie and Monte Marsh. They have zero online presence I can find.

It hasn't been on the local news in a week or two. I've seen a couple vehicles with "Bring Rags home" written on the windows. Since then, silence.

There hasn’t been any updates of real note. They police are honed in on the old couple. They think they moved the dog out of state but they are limiting what they tell the victim due to social media and the community putting it all together. The victim has also hired a PI but he hasn’t come up with much.

She is moving forward with a counter suit against the marshes. Should be some good theater.
