At least they actually care about their dogs and aren't having large breeds in shitty little apartments

Rabble Rabble... Millennials are shite because the boomers ran the country into the ground and left them with nothing but inflated prices and low wages.

Such a terrible generation of people.

I thought boomers constantly tell my generation to wait and have kids until they are ready, stay off of welfare, yadda yadda yadda. I thought you wanted them out of their parent's basement. So they make a decision to buy a house for different reasons than you and are now part of a terrible generation? Gtfo.

That's your first problem.

Well thanks to the boomers, and a little bit to X, for
fricking wrecking the economy, home ownership is tough.....

I will say it again, people on this board who are older love to blame millenials for the worlds problems. However, millenials have yet to be in public office and make one law or have any power effect on policy....... So look into the mirror old fricks

Were dogs more permissible to apartments back in the gap?

Depending on the source and which year it's from 36%-44% of US households own a dog. So having roughly the same percentage of the population that owns dogs letting that fact affect their decisions doesn't seem out of line at all.

Don't get me wrong, people are generally starting families later and pets are stand ins while they wait, so pets have been elevated in their importance in recent years. BUT, this sounds like someone took some numbers that SOUND shocking and baited the trap with one of the biggest trigger words there is these days; millennials in the context of being shitty people.

So people with dogs purchase houses with pet appropriate backyards? Why is this a news story

If you're planning on having kids in the future, you'll probably want a dog and therefore a yard anyway. Buying a house is a long term investment so might as well get the right one now.

Couldn't tell you, but what I can tell you is that rent increases have outpaced the rate of inflation over that time span, indicating a higher demand for rental properties and putting more power in the landlord's hands. Compounding the issue in the context of this thread is that the vast majority of new rental properties being built are apartment complexes.

The end result is that renting a house vs an apartment is a huge fricking hassle, and the already dwindling number of options is cut down to about 10% of what's out there if you have a dog, because the landlord can just move on to the next application. With interest rates at just a tick over 3.5%, it's not really all that shocking that those who have a decent job and have made the decision to leave apartments are biting the bullet and buying. The dog ownership bit is just one part of the equation, but I guess it makes for a nice human interest headline.

Cool. Crashing the housing market and destroying the economy was what tipped me off that your generation is a bunch of dumbasses. Good talk.
