Dog bit mailman. Mailman needs stitches. Anyone familiar with what happens? Does the post office come back to dog owner for payment? No….not my dog. A relative was asking if I knew

Postal worker friend of mine got bit and required surgery. Nothing happened with the dog.

In LA the owner is liable for the damages if he knew or should have known the dog had a propensity to bite a person. Basically, if the dog has bitten someone before and the owner knew such, they are liable for the damages unless the mailman provoked the dog to bite. If the dog had never bitten anyone before and had never shown a propensity to do so, the owner probably has a defense.
Basically, it is a “one free bite” rule

I have a coworker whose dog bit a UPS driver…the driver sued the coworker and his insurance. Ended up costing the dog’s owner an asssload of money.

Dog will probably get out to sleep.
Atleast this is what happened to someone I know that had their dog bite mailman. I never got much to that story though.

Eh. Not quite. When I was like 10 some kid hopped our back yard fence to play in my clubhouse when we weren’t home. Got bit by our chocolate lab. Poor pup got put in doggie jail for a week and had to get fixed.
Not sure if my parents had to pay for the medical bills or not (that would have been frickin bullshite) but poor pup didn’t get off free.
