That is where they stop AIT and Basic Training for two weeks so everyone goes home for Christmas.

They did at Fort Benning a few years ago when my nephew was there. I'm glad mine was straight through. It would be hard as hell to go back to basic after a two week break.

That actually sounds pretty awesome.

That first day back must suck, though. Do the recruits really get thrashed as their welcome back present?

I always thought it was stupid and counterproductive. Total softening of standards and discipline.

What do they do with the recruits that return fat or otherwise fricked up?

The military still do drug testing, so, the trainees that use marijuana may fail a drug test. Pot stays in the system for weeks.

A buddy of mine got 2 weeks off from the national guard basic training so i'd assume so.

I meant more in the general sense of being out of shape, nasty, etc.

There has to be a whole gaggle that return that are pretty much back at square one regarding fitness, bearing and whatnot. Do they just get thrashed back into shape or pushed back into an earlier training cycle?

I assume they have to check in with their recruiter or somebody.

No Such thing. But to answer the OPs question. Yes.

I graduated Basic the day before Holiday block Leave. Im glad I didnt have to go back after. My buddy is in Benning right now, when he returns he has 1 week left of training and is done. Another one has 4 weeks left. I really sucks to do a split like this.

My AIT was interrupted for the Exodus. I made sure i ran a couple miles every day for the two weeks because i knew it would be bad when we got back.

Sure enough, we got smoked just like we were fresh off the cattle cart. Some of the guys weren't ready for that though, lol.

Basic Training at Fort Sill.

All Basic Training/AIT is done together in the Army, doesn't matter if you are Active, National Guard, or Reserves.

Spinoff: My Dad's platoon in Basic was entirely Guard guys and draftees except one dude who was going Regular Army to be in the Army band. It was a hot as balls SC summer, and a round cooked off spontaneously and went through the Regular Army guy's hand. Medical discharge for the one guy who actually wanted to be there.

Nor does the Marine Corps.

I work with Marine recruits, it'd be nice to not have to see this frickers for a couple of weeks.

I went in 2010 for basic training and we were able to leave.

I'm assuming it's still occurring.
