Hundreds, probably thousands, of road signs that say "Bridge Ices Before Roadway"?

If these signs are $50-$100 each and it cost another $100 to install (at a minimum), then why on earth do we (the tax payers) pay to let people know something that is obvious?

I get pissed every time I see one of these signs.

If we have to have signs for idiots, why not "It is harder to see when raining" or "It is harder to see between sun up and sun down".

In the off chance a bridge ices and someone is injured, the state is protected.

Have you been down the newly expanded Staring Lane? There are signs all over that road. I have never seen a stretch of road with so many different signs. I am sure there was an expensive study done to determine those many signs were needed.

LA probably needs those signs more than states in colder areas. People in LA have no idea how to react when ice comes, despite how rare it is.

How did you come to learn that a bridge ices before the roadway?

Pretty simply put. It is cheaper to put up these signs than to deal with lawsuits. But it is also a safety measure.

ETA: Considering that Louisiana has something like the 3rd most bridges of any state in the country, I would say this is a very important sign to have. We aren't accustomed to icy conditions. So on the rare occasion that it happens, the potential costs of lawsuits relating to bridge accidents dwarf the costs of installation/maintenance of the signs.
