Does Anyone Know Someone Who Has Been Catfished?

This might not even be within the true definition of "catfished", but the only person I know of is this guy, whose brother met some girl in a yahoo chatroom years ago. His brother told me they had only communicated with each other for about a year. He printed out her picture and put it in a frame and everything.
They finally agree to meet. He planned to fly out to California and everything. They planned to met at a specific place where they would then go back to her place, which he planned to stay for a few days. When he got there, some girl who looked nothing like the girl in the picture (evidently not even close), was there waiting. She told him that she was using her cousin's picture and as they became closure the harder it became for her to tell him and that she wanted to tell him in person (so he flew out there for her to tell him the truth).
His brother (the dude I am friends with), told me he heard him in his room crying (they lived in an apartment together at the time), but evidently he was really torn about about the whole thing.
Anyone else knows someone who met someone online and had a similar story?

It could be worse.
He could have stuck around and nailed her anyway.
Some dignity is spared.

We used to troll buddies, back when chatting on MIRC and Yahoo chat was big.
Set up accounts with pics of cute girls, and reel our buddies in like fish.
Some would get all stupid and we would print the chats, and show to other buddies.

I knew a guy who catfished his whole family. He told them he was going to college, and when they showed up for graduation his name wasn't in the program.

Yes.
I knew a guy who was (still is) one of those autograph goofballs who hangs out at hotels to meet celebrities.
A few years ago, the 18U USA women's soccer team came to town for an exhibition game. He, of course, starts following some of the team on Twitter. He ends up having a Twitter conversation with one of the girls. Not DM's but actual back and forth tweets that everyone can see. He ends up telling her he wants to take her to dinner when they come to town. She agrees. They come to town and he starts tweeting her saying that he's coming out to the stadium and "she better take a picture with him". She says ok. Well, the guy shows up to the stadium and this girl is nowhere to be found.
Long story short: it was a fake profile.
The kicker: this guy was married. His wife found out about the situation and divorced him.
