There is a prevalent conspiracy theory that there is too much money in treatment for there to ever be a cure. Plus other economic factors in play.

Not my theory, but I have heard it for years.

There are too many variations for it to be as simple as "a" cure.

I believe researchers want to cure cancer. They are driven by publications and funding, and this would be the mother of all ego boosts.

Can you imagine if we ever found out that someone was hoarding the cure?

No. Just like the powers that be will never ban cigarettes because they can keep taxing the hell out of it.

Probably not.

People have to die if something, otherwise there would be overcrowding, starvation, etc.

We don't have casualties from wars and other epidemics like years ago.

But I don't know why they chose to cure aids Instead of cancer.

No, if there was there is no way that one person involved wouldn't cash in. Too much money stands to be made by this discovery for a conspiracy to take place.

At $100,000+/yr in treatment/patient "curing" cancer certainly is profitable.

I am sure the curing will go in for quite a while before it's totally eradicated.

Go to the medical district in Houston and look at the billions worth of real estate for "research hospitals" and there's your answer.

You realize how many people would need to be involved in a conspiracy of this magnitude?

Not to mention whoever actually owns "the cure" would be able to sell it for Trillions probably.

There are "cures" for cancer. Problem is, they only work for some people. When my father was battling brain cancer in 2005, I got to speak with Allan Friedman (Neurosurgeon and professor at Duke)in his office. Dr. Friedman told me that the patients he witnessed go into remission after treatment were almost always completely random. Dr. Friedman has been in the game for a very long time and is considered one of the best neurosurgeons in the world.

Cancer isn't one thing. . . There are so very many flavors and intricacies. Each situation is vastly different from the next, even within a certain histology and disease subsite.

We're damn close on alot of it, and if there is a cure being "hoarded" alot of highly intelligent researchers out there are wasting a ton of time, effort, and money.

We won't see a blanket "cure" in our lifetimes. What will continue to get better is decreasing treatment toxicity and improved/more specific screening techniques.

The powers that be isn't a body of government working together to make decisions about cancer.

I don't know much about cancer, in terms of what types of cancer or worse than others and the different treatments involved in different types of cancers. And I am sure there is a lot of money to be made treating cancer, but I don't think curing cancer will be as simple as, being diagnosed then taking a pill to cure it. I am sure certain types of cancer would have to be cured one way and other types, another way.

There is a lot more money to be made in the curing of cancer. I work for a medical device company and we are partnering with a few of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world that are actively pursuing cures. Different cancers require different treatments. The big thing going right now is CAR-T cell therapy where your own T-cells are "trained" to seek and destroy cancer cells. The treatment is very promising and FDA approval is coming soon. This therapy has already saved the lives of many people who were on the brink of death and chemo/radiation did not work. Currently, this therapy is about $500,000 because of the low production volumes and the customization required for each individual. That price will go down but it will still be very expensive as the process to create it takes about 10 days per person. My company is automating the process to bring that number down.

tldr; There is a lot of money to be had in finding cancer cures

I feel that way about Diabetes. Seems to be a gigantic market for all the medicine and supplies that just suppresses and not cures.

The only people who believe in this conspiracy are those who are completely ignorant about cancer.
