Back wen Xerox was the only copier in town, you would Xerox copies. It took a while for people to adjust to 'copying machine' instead of 'Xerox'.
Similarly with the Crockpot/slow cooker and Kleenex/tissue. And I believe Lear Jet was synonymous with private jet, until some competitors came along.
Any other examples?

Those will now and forever be crockpot and kleenex.
Band-Aid is one that probably won't change either.
In the South every drink is a damn coke

"Hoover" and "Frigidaire" were synonymous with their tasks for a while.

Remember when Xerox used waxy paper? Putting the carbon in "cc:"? Getting high on mimeographs?
ETA: Meant the ditto machine, not mimeograph. So easy to enjoy that smell I almost looked forward to tests.

Before Xerox was the Ditto machine. In school, we used to love the smell of freshly printed papers.
quote:
And the king of all school smells: The ink from test papers and worksheets printed on Ditto machines.
The print on these papers was a strange shade of purple. And, the tests' distinctive scent – the more recent the copy was made, the stronger the smell – was intoxicating.
Literally.
As students passed the pile of papers from the front seat of class to the back, we would press the pages against our faces.
"Ah," one friend groaned every time we got a test. "Love that [expletive deleted] smell!"

It must have been nice when these companies were the only game in town. For them, I mean.

Yes, and you haven't lived until you took a big whiff of Ditto fluid from your test paper before the days of Xerox.
