I have to admit that I don't. I check for cars obviously. But I'll jump in the car and fire it back until I get close to the road. Today an old lady was walking down the sidewalk about a yard length away. If I left 30 seconds later she might be playing bingo in the big bingo parlor in the sky right now. Talk about a wake up call. Anyone else a little reckless with this simple aspect of driving?

Driveway = my property. Your safety walking across is your responsibility.

Last I checked sidewalks are easements?

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

My car beeps if something is behind it or approaching from the side. Before I had that, I tried to look but was not perfect.

As a walker, I can testify that most people do not look at all. I've scared the shite out of a few of them by stopping just shy of their driveway and waiting for them to back up beside me. Surprise!

That they will not keep clean, repaired or updated. For reference, see a certain very-wide street in Southdowns that the original proud residents (example: my grandparents) paid $ to the city to have the sidewalk run along our house

I parked on the other side of the street from a guy's driveway once (it was a very wide residential street). He backs out of his driveway flying in his Porsche while I'm standing there in the street with the key in my driver's side door. I had about a second to dive out of the way right before he plows into my truck right where I had been standing.

He was so pissed off and confused. He was like, "where did you come from?!?!? Why didn't you stop and let me out?!?!?" I was like, "dude, I wasn't driving. The car was parked."

And that's the story of how I was almost paralyzed, kids.

I'm not a fireman, so I don't back into my garage.

You are an idiot. Yes. I look. Its a one second glance. This ensures you won't kill someone or be involved in a lawsuit that will cost you thousands.
