I know this guy from Houston who was my cousin’s friend. We all used to hang out, watch the game, drink, and sometimes have a poker game. I got really curious at what he did because it seemed like he wasn’t working but had all this free time. So one day I asked him what he did and he said he’s a contract pharmacist in McAllen, TX. He makes over 200k but hates his work. He would take a 2 year break after his contract is up and rents a simple apartment in Houston and just chill. He said his job may have been a main reason for his divorce. He also said his break would be longer had it not be for alimony/child support.

Me about 51% of the time.

Eta
Taking a 2 year break after making 200k is a laughable lie btw. I literally laughed.

I know a few plant baws who used to work offshore, and they would much rather be offshore.

Obligatory “y’all hiring?” to anyone interested in a technical salesman.

Life is miserable stuck in a job you hate.

You spend 1/4 of your adult life working, its pretty important to find something enjoyable. Greed is usually a wrong way street.

Plenty of high paying jobs involve high stress and very long hours. I’m sure that leads to people hating their jobs.

Yep - Friend of mine runs his own company but has to get up at 4:30 am every day drive an hour then work outside in the mud/heat/dirt/cold.

He makes about 20K a week before he pays for all his equipment / hands/ diesel/ shite breaking etc etc

Comes home at 3-4 pm worn out and dirty five days a week

says he hates it but the money is too good to stop

Yes, I never hated it before Covid started, but even working for a Fortune 50 company and making $220k, the stress became unmanageable. Took a role for a smaller start up and while the stress isn't completely gone, it's much more manageable and still making bank.

“Find the job you love and you will never work a day in you life.”

This is the biggest lie ever told!

My BIL is a safety manager for a large, commercial construction company that does projects all across southern California. He makes $400,000 and has no prior experience and no safety degree (knew the right people) and he hates it.

If it weren't for health insurance, he would have already quit and be a stay at home dad.

Well, what if you find something enjoyably but suck at it? You still have to be good at it and it has to be a valuable service to society.

Obviously, you aren't going to be doing it very long.

The world has way too much opportunity to pigeonhole yourself in one career. All youre doing is selling your happiness.
