A friend of mine definitely is. I stopped going into stores with him because of it. Before barcodes he would literally switch the price tag on a $1.29 bottle of water and pay $.99. Once barcodes became common he would switch entire packaging - stuff the more expensive item inside the cheaper box and buy that. Cops came to his house one day after stealing popcorn box from Blockbuster.. talked his way out saying he thought his wife paid etc. This is a married guy with kids. Not to mention some major thievery from store fronts and outdoor displays. Crazy/dumb a-hole really.

Know any of these?

No, I try to distance myself from people of this nature.

Has he ever stolen something from you?

We had a guy that worked with us that was like that. He was forced into retirement/laid off about 2 years ago. Since then our office supply closet is full and we always have toilet paper, paper napkins and light bulbs.

I know a few people that take things when they get drunk. Traffic cones, branded rugs, random shite like that.

And he has money.

I guess he does it for attention or just to feel like he got over on the store. I've never known him to steal anything from people, just from stores. (not that that's ok)

This is a crazy story...

Guy and his wife have another couple over for dinner. They've known each other for years. Went to school together, so it's not like they just met. They are having drinks and visiting for an hour or so as dinner cooks. Just before they eat the host wife notices a ring the guest wife is wearing and says, "What a beautiful ring! I have one very similar to that my Grandmother left me. That's uncanny, you have to see it. They're identical..."

She goes to her bathroom to retrieve the ring unbeknownst of her husband. She looks for the ring and can't find it. She comes back up front and says "Where are our guest?"

The husband says, "I don't know what was going on. His wife said she was sick and they just left quickly. I hope she's okay..."

The wife tells the story about her having the same ring and now her ring was missing and they put 2 and 2 together.

Host husband bucks up and calls guest husband, "Hey I don't want this to be weird, but did your wife steal my wife's ring?"

Guest husband simply says, "I'm coming back over..."

He pulls up alone and hands the host dude the ring along with a book of cd's and some other random shite. Apologizes profusely and says his wife has a problem, they're getting counseling, etc.

True story. Totally f'd up.

Not anymore, but when I was young.. There were these two brothers (two dudes who had the same parents, not black dudes) from the neighborhood next to mine. When they would come around we would have to hide whatever we had outside. Bats, gloves, balls, firecrackers, baseball/football cards, etc. If something came up missing when they were around, you knew what happened. People would go to their house all the time and they would deny it, but when someone figured out yall you had to do was tell them you were going to ask their parents if they seen whatever items you were looking for, around the house they would give it back to you.. So they eventually ended up going into gas stations to steal baseball cards and other stuff.

But they grew out of it. If someone I know is a kleptomaniacs, I don't know about it.. Or at least I can't think of anyone.

That's just being stupid. I think the OP is referring to people who, whether they are drunk or not, will steal.. And not just random stuff, but thinks of value.

The victims, I don't know if you know the thief.

So many questions...

Why was she wearing the ring she stole in front of the wife? Why not say, "Oh I'm sorry, it's yours. I tried it on in the bathroom because it's so pretty and forgot to take it off."? Why steal cd's any time in the last 17 years?

I've never tried on a ring in someone's house. That's just weird.

Used to take bar mats or dart championship trophies from random bars when I was 18. Got caught and never did it again.

No. Quit asking questions. I almost didn't post it to respect the identities of the people involved, but it was to good of a story. And now you are already prying me for info.
