I work in an office where we all have private offices and therefore kids are not much of a distraction.
All of our employees who are parents have brought their kids into work at some point. Some have their kids come to our office after school everyday where they sit at a table and do hw.
I personally have zero issues with it and neither does my boss (who has his daughter come in after school as well)
My oldest son started his training in IT by coming to work with me during the Summer. I would bring him into the datacenter aswell as have him tag along while reimaging/troubleshooting helpdesk tickets. It provided an invaluable opportunity to nurture his interest in IT.
Not all workplaces can support parents bringing kids to work but I consider myself fortunate ours can.

I've used that technique in the past, with quite a bit of success

1. You're a damn pilot, all you gotta do is ask for coffee and they get moist
2. You brought your niece into the cockpit?

occasionally but it's not for anything except a few hours
I don't mind it because I have headphones in half the time anyways

on days off, take the kid to the mall, grocery store, etc., back in the day, I never really took a day off

I have when my son was injured and couldn't return to daycare for a couple of weeks. He sat there in my office and STFU though.
