Do we have any pest control experts on the OT?

First things first, here's my tithe:
Now the problem:
I just walked in to one of our guest bedrooms and the floor was crawling with what I believe are termites. I was hoping they were flying ants, but they don't look like it.
I vacuumed up all the little bastards and haven't seen any more of them anywhere else in the house.
I will definitely get an exterminator out to make sure they don't spread.
BUT, we leave tomorrow morning first thing for a 5 day vacation kayaking the Buffalo River.
Can I risk waiting until we get back? Or am I going to come home to an even bigger mess?

Do you not have termite protection on your home? I'm pretty sure it is required as a condition of your mortgage.

This is how threads are supposed to be started per the OT handbook

Termites have all 4 wings of equal length. Use a flashlight and hold it to where it shines a long beam across your drywall. Look for pinholes or waves. Check all interior walls. Clean up all bugs. You probably have a concern if they repeat. They will not eat your house down over a month. I do drink, but I was a licensee in a previous life.

Did you take pic? Ants have 3 sections and termites 2.

They’re going to chew half your fricking house down before you even step foot in that Indian River.

They’re potentially termites swarming. Probably not much to be concerned with in the short-term. Just keep an eye on interior walls and also your exterior foundation. Not foolproof because they can come up in your bath traps and shite, but it’s a good starting point to be on the lookout for. Also depending on how long you’ve owned/lived in your house, it very well may already be treated.

Basf makes the only worthwhile termite poison I am aware of. Termochlore ? sp. It is supposed to last up to 17 years per application. Most states require a bug license to purchase, but you can do an internet purchase. Since you are seeing them fly, it's likely to be a dry wood termite, not a ground dweller. I had an infestation . Drilled holes in the walls between the studs and injected the Basf stuff with a turkey baster. Problem was fixed . The Basf stuff when chewed on by a bug, the bug brings the poison back to the nest and kills many more.
Tenting kills all the bugs, but there is no lasting effect and the week after the flying termites are back.
Most pesticide companies just want to dig a small trench around your foundation and add permethins to it

10 to 1 they fell out of the light fixture if you saw that
they get into the dark attic and find the tiny holes around light boxes by seeing the light from the ceiling light and crawl in. sometimes they also come through around the a/c boxes on the ceiling and fall through the air grills.
they definitely got into your house, but that doesnt 100% mean they started a nest. but i would spray everything in the attic really good to be sure
all you need is a jar of talstar and you can spray it yourself

You’re fine to go on vacation. Gather some samples and call for an inspection when you get back. They very well could have come from outdoors and crawled in.
Call a pro.

Th ask everyone!
I set up an appointment for first thing Monday morning.
I’m hoping they came in from the window in that room.
I’ll raise a beer to the OT while floating down the Buffalo River in my kayak.
