weather conditions?
I don't remember schools ever closing, unless it was the day the hurricane was going to come through town. I can understand high flood areas and severe tropical storms, but schools seem to be closing everytime the wind blows. Maybe it's just me.

In emergency/ dangerous situations it's best to keep traffic off the roads.

Closing schools does this.

20 years ago we lived in a less litigious society, and one where it was hard to close schools, notification wise.

Embrace technology.

We used to have to walk 5 miles to and from school and uphill both ways!

For a variety of reasons, those in charge of making these decisions would rather be ridiculed for being too cautious than be castigated for not being cautious enough.

Yes. From K-12 the only time school was canceled for me was when a hurricane was making landfall.

Now they close school if it's cold or if it will rain hard.

I doubt there are many millennials in school administration positions that can make this call.

It's the fricking baby boomers who are making these decisions to make our children into pussies.

Yes. Because they are scared to death to get sued.

Heck, I coach football and we have to keep a weather meter that tracks how close a lightening strike was. Anything with 6 miles of the meter and we have to go inside. We can't go back out to practice until 30 minutes has lapsed without lightening detected by the meter. Really screws things up as we often get a the edge of a storm passing and one random bolt way off in the distance about 5 miles away shuts us down for 1/2 hour. Sun could Be beaming down where we are at but we have to follow the rule or risk some "in every bodies business" parent running to the administrators office saying the staff should be reprimanded or fired.
