Do poor people have more health problems?

I'm a retail pharmacist and every time I work in a lower economically developed area I have 8-10 people giving me sob stories about some horrible disease they or their family has.
I rarely hear this when I work other stores.

I don't know why with all the trips to the ER they take.

No, they just talk more/are more dramatic.

They're trying to get in your pants.

Bad genes, not properly taking care of themselves (eating, staying active, etc), lack of preventative care.... List goes on

Plus, they are usually trying to distract me from noticing their RX is fake or too early

Exactly. He doesn't want legitimate answers though.

Many don't have insurance and may not be poor enough for medicaid. So they don't go to doctors until they are really sick. They usually are not as educated as well.
Also, poor people tend to eat horribly which also leads to poor health.

And in some cases the health issues are a reason they're poor. If you can't put in 40 hours a week you won't have a good job.

are you saying people in the hood value you more than others with an equal socioeconomic background?

More monetary problems, more security problems, more neighborhood problems, but you want to know if they have more health problems? Hmmm, take a wild guess.

Of course they do.
No money for health care policies, co-pays, deductibles, medication, organic food, gym memberships, spin and yoga classes, supplements and kale shakes.
Healthcare takes a back seat to survival.
How are you a pharmacist and not have been taught or just picked up on any social norms?

It would be bad enough just to be poor.
But to "not be poor enough" would be demoralizing.

That was us growing up. My dad worked too much and wasn't lazy enough to qualify for medicaid(even with 4 children and my mom not working). And his employer did not offer insurance. So we were SOL healthcare wise. Luckily....none of us ever got seriously ill as kids.

maybe, maybe not, it's a combination of economics, education, dietary choices, and more

In some neighborhoods....it is simply just easier for the family to eat unhealthy food. Go drive in the worst neighborhoods in your city....take notice of how many grocery stores and health food stores you see. Now look at how many fast food restaurants and convenience stores you see.

It's known as a "food desert."

Good health is another white privilege
